Why LED and nothing else
Hardware that stays up year round has to handle weather that seasonal strands never see. Traditional bulbs were built around a season, not a decade. The case for LED is heat, power draw and durability, and all three matter when the thing never comes inside.None of this is a reason to become an expert. But it is worth knowing what you are buying, because the answer tells you how carefully somebody works. The people who explain it plainly are generally the ones doing it properly.
What the channel does
The LEDs sit inside a color matched aluminum channel. That channel does two things at once: conceal and direct. Color matching is part of the specification, and it is why the daytime look holds.
Individual diodes, not a strip
Each LED in the run is addressed on its own. That is
https://penzu.com/p/74f984a2ca49992d the difference between a single color across the whole house and something that can alternate, chase or fade. The capability matters a handful of nights, and then it is December.Ask to see the daytime look of a completed job, since darkness flatters every install and daylight flatters only the careful ones.
Power, wiring and the box on the wall
Behind the visible run there is wiring, a transformer and a control unit. Wire routing is the quiet quality signal, because a rushed job leaves it visible. Ask where the wire goes and where the controller mounts while it is still a conversation.
Living with permanent hardware
Permanent means it stays, which is the appeal and also the responsibility. A system installed properly asks very little of you. A sloppy install is a daytime problem forever. That is why who installs it is not a detail.
Weather is what the hardware is up against
Permanent hardware takes whatever the year brings. Summer heat builds up along a sunlit fascia, and heat is the enemy of anything with a circuit in it. Humidity is constant here, which is why connections and seals matter. The failure points are almost never the LEDs.
The control nobody mentions
The output can be turned down. At full output it is a display. Turned down, it is exterior lighting. The everyday level ends up low, and that is the setting doing the actual work.
